Malaysia man unscathed from traffic accident but killed after another car hits him

KOTA KINABALU - A man walked away unscathed from an accident only to be killed just minutes later by an oncoming car in the Malaysian state of Sabah.

The 38-year-old victim apparently exited his car and stood in the middle of the road after a collision with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.

Moments later, an oncoming car that was driving past the same stretch rammed into him.

Lahad Datu police chief, Assistant Commissioner (AC) Dzulbaharin Ismail, said the incident occurred along Batu 35 KM56, Lahad Datu-Sandakan stretch, at about 12.30am on June 16.

He said the victim was with a passenger, aged 30, heading towards Sandakan from Lahad Datu when the car suddenly skidded and veered into the opposite lane.

“Their car then collided with another vehicle from the opposite direction, driven by a 49-year-old man.

“The impact caused the victim’s car to spin before it came to a halt in the middle of the road while the other vehicle skidded to the left side,” AC Dzulbaharin said.

He said both the victim and his passenger then exited the car. “Moments later, another vehicle, driven by a 47-year-old man, from Lahad Datu towards Sandakan, suddenly hit the victim who was standing there.

“The victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead by health officials,” AC Dzulbaharin said.

He added that the victim was taken to the Lahad Datu Hospital for a post-mortem, adding that others involved in the accident were not hurt.

“Blood samples have been taken from the victim, the passenger and drivers of the two vehicles for alcohol and drug tests,” he said.

He urged eyewitnesses to contact the traffic investigation officer, Inspector Humaidi Harun, or make a report at the nearest police station. THE STAR/ ASIA NEWS NETWORK
