Malaysia’s general election on Saturday

will be a tight race with no single coalition expected to secure enough seats to form the federal government.

It is the first time that Malaysia’s 21 million voters have to choose between three main coalitions, Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional, as well as scores of smaller parties and more than 100 independent candidates.

It is also the first time that young Malaysians aged 18 to 20 will get to cast their ballots.

The Straits Times’ team – 10 correspondents and eight photographers and videographers – has been reporting from the campaign trail in Malaysia, particularly in key battlegrounds that will see heated tussles.
