Malaysia gas pipeline fire: Alleged dashcam footage shows excavation work at site of blaze

SHAH ALAM - A video has gone viral on social media allegedly showing dashcam footage of excavation work being carried out within a fenced gas pipeline area days before

the tragedy in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya,

on April 1, reported Malay-language daily Sinar Harian.

A towering inferno had been triggered by a gas pipeline leak, injuring more than 100 and forcing residents to flee their homes.

The Malay language daily reported that the 1min 41sec video, believed to be taken on March 28 and 30, was uploaded by TikTok user @miiraahz, depicting an excavator not far from the site of excavation work by the roadside.

The clip then shows the appearance of an excavator on the afternoon of March 30, within the excavation area.

Observations indicate that the area of land being excavated expanded over those two days, with no maintenance signage installed.

@miiraahz also shared experiences of frequently passing by the road near Putra Heights and admiring the greenery of the fenced open area, but now expressed sadness, as the location has turned into a “battlefield”.

“I always pass this road, always see the beautiful greenery but now... May all the victims’ affairs be eased. Amen,” she wrote.

The footage has indirectly raised questions and received various reactions from other TikTok users, Sinar Harian reported. User @DonAfiez hoped the video uploaded on social media was handed over to the police as evidence.

“To the video owner, I hope this dashcam evidence is handed to the police because it strongly indicates there was a backhoe conducting excavation activities (at the site),” he said.

So far, the video has garnered 1.4 million views, capturing the attention of many social media users.

However, Sinar Harian is still attempting to obtain further feedback from the TikTok user claiming to be the owner of the footage. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
