KUALA LUMPUR – The case involving a female Taiwanese influencer who was found dead in a hotel room in the Malaysian capital has been reclassified as murder.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the matter was initially classified as sudden death.
“Her body was discovered on Oct 22.
“It was initially classified as sudden death, but we have since reclassified it under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” he said when contacted on Nov 4.
On Nov 2, Malaysian rapper Namewee – whose real name is Wee Meng Chee – denied using drugs and involvement in the death of the influencer,
He posted a statement on Instagram after what he described as “unsubstantiated news reports” linked him to the death of the influencer Iris Hsieh. She was found dead in a hotel bathtub.
“I haven’t used drugs, nor have I been carrying any. At most, I’ve been drinking more lately.
“Believe it or not, the truth will come out when the police report is released, which should take another two or three months,” he wrote in Chinese. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
