KLUANG, Johor - Malaysian firemen have captured a 1.2m-long juvenile crocodile weighing about 6kg, which wandered into a secondary school compound in Johor.
Renggam Fire and Rescue Station chief Mohd Nizar Ma’mun said a six-man team led by operations commander Ahmad Syawal was dispatched to SMK Dato Rahman Andak in the district of Kluang on Sept 6.
“A security guard spotted the reptile and immediately informed a teacher, who then contacted us at 8.15am.
“However, it is unclear where the crocodile came from, but it is believed to have strayed into the school grounds,” he said when contacted, adding that it was fortunate the incident occurred on a weekend when no students were in school.
He said the team caught the crocodile using a snare.
The operation ended at 8.35am once the school area was confirmed safe.
“The crocodile is being temporarily kept at the fire station.
“I have also contacted the Kluang Wildlife and National Parks Department, and their officers will pick up the reptile later this evening,” he added. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
