Johor Sultan decrees he is to be addressed as 'His Majesty' in English from 'His Royal Highness'

JOHOR BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - The official English form of address for Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has been changed from "His Royal Highness" to "His Majesty", effective on Tuesday (Sept 5).

The Johor Council of Royal Court president Datuk Abdul Rahim Ramli said Sultan Ibrahim decreed the change in honorific titles with the privileges, power and authority vested in him under Article 7(2)(d)(f) and (g) of the Second Part of the Johor State Constitution of 1895.

In a press statement released on Tuesday by the Johor Council of Royal Court, Sultan Ibrahim had also consented to Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Permaisuri Johor to be addressed as "Her Majesty".

The Malay "Duli Yang Maha Mulia" form of address for Sultan Ibrahim and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah remains unchanged.

In conversation, Sultan Ibrahim shall be addressed as "Your Majesty, Tuanku or Sir" and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah as "Your Majesty, Tuanku or Madam".
