The Malaysian Home Minister was asked if arrangements would be introduced to help Johoreans working in Singapore return to vote.

JOHOR BAHRU – Malaysia will facilitate border crossing for outstation voters, particularly Johoreans working in Singapore, to return to the country and cast their ballots in the upcoming state election, said Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
However, he added that the measures to be implemented would depend on key election dates, which will be announced by the Election Commission (EC) following its meeting on June 12.
“We will wait for the EC meeting. Usually, after the meeting, (the EC) will announce the nomination day, campaign period and polling day.
“The Home Ministry, especially the Immigration Department and related agencies, will respond based on that announcement,” he told reporters after an event in Johor on June 9.
Saifuddin Nasution said the choice of polling day would have different implications for cross-border travel between Johor and Singapore.
He added that the ministry would do its best to ease the voting process for Johoreans.
He had been asked if special arrangements, including possible fast-lane facilities at border checkpoints, would be introduced to help Johoreans working in Singapore return to vote.
