JAKARTA - Indonesia’s government signed on Jan 8 a memorandum of understanding with an investor from Qatar to build one million affordable homes, one of President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programmes.
Housing Minister Maruarar Sirait signed the agreement with Qatari Sheikh Abdulaziz Abdulrahman Al Thani, chairman of Qilaa International Group, at the presidential palace, witnessed by Mr Prabowo.
“We prioritise the lower middle class who lives in the cities,” Mr Maruarar told reporters, referring to those who the one million homes will be built for.

During his campaign, Mr Prabowo has said he wants to build three million dwellings annually, in villages and cities to support the lower middle class. REUTERS
