JAKARTA – Indonesia’s plan to impose tariffs of up to 200 per cent on Chinese goods is targeted at protecting small local businesses and shoring up domestic political support rather than thwarting China, said analysts.
They added that the move, announced in June, is unlikely to affect bilateral ties between Jakarta and Beijing, as it is less hard-hitting than tariffs imposed by Western countries on China’s green technology exports
