- An incident involving several Palestinian refugees at Wisma Transit in Kuala Lumpur was resolved without any injuries or severe damage.

The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) said in a statement that the incident occured at about 5pm on Jan 4, when a group of Palestinians wanted the processing of their application to return home to be sped up.

“Armed Forces officers and personnel on duty there held discussions with the Palestinians involved. The matter was then resolved without any argument and injuries,” said MAF in a statement on Jan 5.

“However, some of the furniture in the building had been damaged,” it said, adding that the incident was resolved at about 7pm.

MAF also urged the public not to speculate about the incident, reported state news agency Bernama.

In October 2024, some Palestinians had expressed their frustrations over being placed at the transit centre and the movement restrictions placed on them.

According to Bernama, Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia Walid Abu Ali then issued an apology on behalf of Palestinians.

Malaysia had taken in 127 Palestinians on Aug 16, 2024, for medical treatment. Forty-one injured individuals were reportedly treated at Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital, while their relatives were provided accommodation at Wisma Transit. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
