PUTRAJAYA/JOHOR BAHRU - Two senior police officers are among the five injured when a police helicopter crashed into Sungai Pulai in Johor on July 10, during a mock nuclear training exercise.

Security sources reported that the helicopter crashed at 10.37am, about 21m from the jetty while conducting a mock exercise attended by personnel from Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand.

The helicopter had departed from the Tanjung Kupang Police Station at 9.51am with five individuals on board, including the pilot.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed a helicopter accident involving an AS355N aircraft in Gelang Patah.

According to CAAM, all five were successfully rescued by the Marine Police Force and brought to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency jetty in Johor.

An assistant commissioner and superintendent, along with three rank and file personnel, were sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah following the incident.

“The Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia will carry out further investigations, in line with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016,” the CAAM said.

A detailed investigation is underway, and the exercise has been halted at press time.

At press time some media members who were covering the event were asked to delete their footage of the viral crash which has since been taken down on social media. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
