The region is at risk of more flooding and landslides with heavy rain forecast for north Vietnam, though it could gradually ease on Aug 2 night, according to a report by the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

A week after tropical storm Prapiroon hit the region, parts of the capital remained under water. Rising waters damaged dikes surrounding Hanoi, triggering many landslides, VnExpress reported.

The Hanoi authorities ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents in some parts of the city, VnExpress reported on July 29. Many residents in flooded areas are relying on boats for transport, Vietnam Television reported on its website on July 31. BLOOMBERG
