IPOH (THE STAR /ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - A mother has lodged a police report after her three-year-old daughter suffered a wound that later became infected, allegedly after she was caned at a day care centre in Bercham, Malaysia.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Ali Tamby said that the girl's mother noted an injury on her daughter's right arm after she was sent home by a teacher at about 6pm last Wednesday (Jan 24) .

"The 45-year-old housewife was told that her daughter had been scratching herself," he said in a statement Sunday.

ACP Mohd Ali added that the mother was dissatisfied with the reason and demanded an explanation from the headmaster of the day care centre, before taking the girl to a clinic for treatment.

"The mother took her daughter to the Kampung Simee health clinic on Thursday and was told that there were burns or scalding (kesan lecur) on her arm.

"On Friday, the girl was brought to a polyclinic in Taman Ipoh Permai and was told that the wound had been infected.

"The mother then lodged a police report on Saturday," he added.

ACP Mohd Ali said during the course of the investigation, a meeting was held between the mother and the management of the day care centre and a 32-year-old teacher admitted to caning the girl.

"We are still investigating the matter," he said.
