JAKARTA - Dozens of cases of foodborne illness have been recorded among participating schools in multiple regions, just two weeks after the launch of President Prabowo Subianto’s free nutritious meal programme for students.
On Jan 16, 40 pupils of SDN Dukuh 03 state elementary school in Sukoharjo regency, Central Java, fell ill after eating pre-packed lunches from a local caterer provided as part of the programme. Each lunch set comprised white rice, fried breaded chicken, stir-fried carrots and tofu, cut dragon fruit and a carton of milk.
