In late July, Ms Nancy Lindley, a retiree in Chiang Mai, noticed some unusual transactions on her credit card and immediately raised the issue to her United States-based credit union.
She managed to cancel the card and received a refund for the unauthorised transactions, which amounted to more than US$1,000 (S$1,350).
