KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's rule of law has come under harsh scrutiny again, with controversies in recent weeks raising allegations of political interference reminiscent of that in the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, despite which Umno still returned to power in 2020 after less than a two-year hiatus.
These episodes have afflicted the judiciary, anti-graft agency, public prosecutor and financial market regulators.
