JOHOR BAHRU - A Chinese national’s search for love in Malaysia ended badly after he realised he had been duped, China Press reported.
Mr Yang Zhengbing, 51, borrowed money from his mother so that he could travel from Chongqing to Labis, a town in northern Johor, to meet his 28-year-old “girlfriend”, known as “Qiqi”.
However, his online belle – with whom he supposedly had a relationship for the past year – was nowhere to be found when he arrived at the town, located 150km north of Johor Baru, on Aug 21. “Qiqi” had also blocked him on WeChat upon realising that he was in Labis.
Mr Yang showed locals footage of their video chats in a last-ditch effort to find his “girlfriend”.
They then pointed him to a house belonging to a family whose surname was Zhang.
However, the family claimed that their photos had been misused by the impersonator known as “Qiqi”.
A disappointed Mr Yang told reporters on Sept 2 that he would be flying back to China and would move on from the experience.
However, he said he fell in love with Labis and would return one day to set up a restaurant. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
