SIBU – The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) transported seven candidates of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) national exam to school due to flooding on Jan 13.
APM Sibu chief Wan Mohd Jabir said that accompanying the students from SMK Kwong Hua high school in the agency’s three-tonne lorry were three SPM invigilators and two teachers.
The road to the school has been accessible only by heavy vehicles since Jan 12 due to flooding caused by the swelling of the Rajang River after two days of heavy rain
“Our men picked them up from their respective locations at 7am and reached the school half an hour later,” he added.
Separately, Sarawak’s Fire and Rescue Department reported that its Kanowit station rescued a family whose car was stranded in the flood in Jalan Lukut-Penyulau, Kanowit.
The victims have been identified as Mr Mohd Syaiful Ibrahim, 41; his wife Surua Rosli, 29; and their four-month-old daughter Aliana Afisya.
“They were on their way from Sibu to Kanowit to deliver vegetables to their shop in Kanowit before the incident occurred,” the department said.
The water level at the scene was 1.2m high at 6.30am on Jan 13. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
