BATU PAHAT – Two Indonesian men died while 16 other passengers were injured after the tour bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident with a tow truck and a tanker near the 80km mark of the southbound North-South Expressway in Malaysia, in the early hours of July 3.
The 46 passengers consisted of 44 men and two women.
News outlet Sinar Harian reported that the operations commander from Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station, senior fire officer Md Isa Masngun, said the team received an emergency call regarding the incident at 12.44am.
A Fire Rescue Tender vehicle and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit, along with seven officers from the Ayer Hitam and Yong Peng stations, were dispatched to the scene.
“When the teams arrived at the location, it was found that two male bus passengers aged 43 and 44 were trapped and confirmed dead at the scene.
“Fourteen male passengers, one female passenger and the bus driver were injured, while the rest – 27 male passengers and one female passenger – were not injured,” he said in a statement on July 3.
He added that the 42-year-old tow truck driver and the 33-year-old tanker driver were also safe.
Special equipment was used to extricate the victims, and the rescue operation was called off at 3.03am.
In a later statement, Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Mohamad Shamin Mohamed Salikin identified the two deceased as Mr Hidirman, 43, and Mr Zulhadi, 44. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
