PETALING JAYA – A young boy’s heroic efforts saved two rabbits from a fire on Sept 6.

The boy’s heroic attempt went viral on TikTok after he climbed up a concrete wall to the rabbit cage and cut the wire cage to rescue the rabbits trapped inside.

He was seen balancing on tree branches growing out of the wall to reach the rabbits as the fire raged just metres away.

“I was on my way to work when I saw the place on fire,” said wedding planner Balanagamma Punaimuthi, 32, who took the video.

She saw that there were two rabbits still trapped in the cage, but no one was helping them.

The area that was on fire was an outdoor carpark in Kajang Utama surrounded by a few stalls, and it was very close to where she lived.

An animal lover, Ms Balanagamma said that she and her husband called her cousin, Jason (TikTok username @jxson3636), to help free the rabbits.

Acting quickly, they went home to take tools for cutting the cage open.

“My cousin was slightly burnt on his hands, but we were very happy that the rabbits were saved,” she said.

Ms Balanagamma took the rabbits home and applied medicine to one of the rabbits that had suffered burns to its fur.

The rabbits have been returned to their owners, she said.

“We love animals, and also have pet rabbits of our own,” she added.

Many netizens praised Jason’s brave act in the comments section.

“Thank you for saving the rabbits, you are so brave,” said user Mala.

“Thank you, kind-hearted person. You are the real hero,” said Hafidz Ar.

“Respect you, superhero,” said Jennifer Joy. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
