Malaysian police are investigating a possible case of murder after the body of a man was found stuffed in a suitcase in the state of Penang on Oct 9.
According to state news agency Bernama, a cleaner made the grisly discovery while cleaning the drains at the Ampang Jajar flats in Permatang Pauh suburb, and reported the find to the police.
Seberang Perai Utara district police chief Anuar Abdul Rahman said the police received a report about the body at about 1.45pm.
Malaysian media outlet Malaysia Gazette reported that the victim was found with a plastic bag covering his face, his throat slit and his hands tied.
Sinar Harian newspaper reported that the victim has been identified as 31-year-old Lee Boon Han, who worked as an insurance agent. He was reported missing on Oct 8 when he could not be contacted after leaving for Perlis state on a work-related trip.
The body was taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem.
“Investigations are still ongoing and further developments will be announced later,” Assistant Commissioner Anuar was quoted by Bernama as saying in a statement on Oct 9.
