As deadline draws near, Jokowi still looking for a running mate for elections next year

JAKARTA - Three-and-a-half months ahead of the registration of presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2019 election, the ruling Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has yet to decide who would be the best fit to be the running mate for President Joko Widodo.

It is difficult to find a person of the same calibre as incumbent Vice-President Jusuf Kalla, who has all the key qualifications: Ability to garner extra votes for Mr Joko; having wide social networks; and having strong experience in government, Kompas daily reported, citing Mr Hendrawan Supratikno, a senior party leader.
