KULAI, Johor – A 16-year-old student has pleaded guilty at a Magistrate’s Court in Johor to possessing pornographic materials in his mobile phone.

The underaged accused was taken to court on April 23 where he was charged over committing the offence in Taman Indahpura in the Kulai district at 5.28pm on April 8.

He pleaded guilty to possessing 14 pornographic images on his mobile phone, which is an offence under Section 292(a) of the Penal Code in Malaysia.

The offence is punishable with a jail term of up to three years, a fine or both.

The accused was also charged with

generating explicit content

involving a 17-year-old by editing her photos into pornographic images at 12.40pm on April 9.

He pleaded not guilty to the second charge, which was framed under Section 5 of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act in Malaysia.

If found guilty, the court may impose a warning, a good behaviour bond, a fine, community service, or placement in an approved school or to a Henry Gurney School.

Henry Gurney Schools in Malaysia are juvenile detention centres for young offenders aged 14 to 20.

Magistrate R. Salini allowed bail at RM4,000 (S$1,190) for each count with one surety.

The court also set the date of June 23 for next mention.

The case was prosecuted by Malaysian Deputy Public Prosecutor S. Thiviya while the accused was represented by a lawyer.
