PETALING JAYA – Investigations into a counter-setting syndicate in Malaysia led to the seizure of around RM2 million (S$610,000) in jewellery and gold pieces.
In a statement on their TikTok page, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said six people were arrested.
A total of 3.2kg of jewellery worth RM1.6 million and 75 gold pieces worth around RM400,000 were seized.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said the raids were conducted from Sept 9 to 11.
He added that five of the suspects arrested were Immigration Department officers attached to the airport.
It is believed that they received bribes from agents as payment for easing the entry of foreign workers.
“The Selangor MACC also froze 70 bank accounts as well, leading to a total value of RM3.3 million in total assets seized,” said Datuk Seri Ahmad. THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK
