Two witnesses, a 23-year-old foreign woman and a 27-year-old Malaysian man, were injured when they attempted to stop the suspect from attacking the victim. Both were taken to hospital.
The motive of the attack, which happened at around 7.40pm, remains under investigation.
Photos of the suspect in a pool of blood at the bottom of a stairway were circulated online. A crowd also gathered in the street.
The incident comes less than a week after a school stabbing incident in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya in which a 16-year-old female student was killed. The suspect, a 14-year-old boy from the same school, will be detained until Oct 28, the police said.
