JASIN (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Alert passengers managed to escape from a blazing bus along the North-South Expressway near the Jasin toll plaza in Malaysia's state of Malacca.
In the incident on Sunday at 2.20am, 16 Singaporean passengers managed to scurry out of the bus after being rudely awakened by shouts of "fire" by the Malaysian driver.
He had noticed the rear of his vehicle was ablaze.
A spokesman for the Malacca Fire And Rescue Department, Mr Mohd Hafidzatullah Rashid, said the bus was on its way to Singapore from Ipoh.
Four fire engines rushed to the scene, but it was too late to save the bus.
No one was injured in the incident, and some of the passengers continued their journey after the company sent a replacement bus.
Others sought other alternatives.
Mr Mohd Hafidzatullah said the cause of the fire was still being probed.
