When China

announced a surprise ban on imports of Taiwanese mangoes

this week, it hardly drew a shrug from farmer Wang Yu-wei.

“We’re already having difficulty producing enough mangoes to meet domestic demand, let alone worry about exports,” said the 47-year-old, who runs an orchard in Pingtung county in southern Taiwan.
