SEOUL - A sinkhole opened up in the middle of a road in western Seoul on the morning of Aug 29, swallowing an entire car.
Two people were injured, with one in critical condition, according to the fire authorities.
At 11.26am (10.26am Singapore time), the vehicle rolled over sideways and crashed into the sinkhole while travelling on Seongsan-ro in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, north-western Seoul, towards Seongsan Bridge.
The two people in the car – the male driver, who is in his 80s, and a woman in her 70s – suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation had to be performed on the woman as she was found in a state of cardiac arrest, Korea JoongAng Daily reported. Her pulse returned later, it added.
The sinkhole – reported measuring around 6m wide, 4m long and 2.5m deep by KBS News – caused severe traffic congestion.
