TAIPEI- The little green and red men in southern Taiwan's traffic lights have got matching girlfriends, just in time for Valentine's Day, it was reported on Tuesday (Feb 13).
According to the Taiwan News website, the first of some 45 pedestrian signs featuring a new "couple" design was unveiled on Tuesday at an official ceremony in southern Pingtung County.
The new street crossings feature the animated red man kneeling down to propose to his girlfriend, and the green man holding his girlfriend's hand and crossing the road.
The loved-up signs were commissioned by the Pingtung County Police Bureau to make the traffic lights more attractive, Taiwan News reported.
Designer Cheng Da-wei said at the launch that the new signs can make crossing the road "exciting".
Pingtung's mayor Pen Men-an told Taiwan News the new design "emphasise Pingtung is a county filled with love".
The couple traffic light signs will be installed at 45 junctions in Pingtung City before being expanded to the whole county.
