SINGAPORE – A Singaporean man who was holidaying with his family in Hong Kong died on Oct 10.
In response to queries from The Straits Times, Hong Kong police said the incident occurred around 9.20am.
The 63-year-old man was using the massage pool next to the main swimming pool at the Royal Plaza Hotel in the Mong Kok district, police said.
A hotel guest found him unconscious in the pool and a lifeguard administered first aid before the authorities arrived, reported news outlet Sing Tao.
He died while being taken to Kwong Wah Hospital, said the police, adding that the cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.
The man had a medical history of high blood pressure, his family told the police, according to a Sing Tao report.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Royal Plaza Hotel said: “Our sincerest thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
“The situation is currently under police investigation, and to honour the family’s privacy, we must refrain from sharing further details,” the spokesperson added.
Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said it has been rendering consular assistance to the family of the deceased through its Consulate-General in Hong Kong.
“MFA extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” a ministry spokesperson said.
