BEIJING - When about 400 soldiers from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) stepped out of their barracks to help clear debris after Typhoon Mangkhut hit Hong Kong last year, some people were not too happy with their visible presence.
Such has been the discomfort that people in Hong Kong have with Chinese troops since they marched into the territory when the British returned the city to China in 1997.
