BEIJING – Angry netizens sent China’s censors into overdrive erasing an outpouring of criticism, after week-long speculation that officials would announce the relaxing of Covid-19 measures on Saturday proved unfounded.

Throughout the week, multiple news reports about a regular press update by the Covid-19 joint response team had spawned fervid discussions on messaging forums.
