The formation of trade unions in the last few months by those opposed to the administration of Chief Executive Carrie Lam has given rise to fears that pro-establishment candidates may receive a drubbing in Legislative Council (LegCo) elections due in September.

The polls for the city's Parliament will be a closely watched affair following the landslide victory of the vocal and largely anti-establishment pan-democrats in the district council election last November.
