TOKYO – Anker Japan, the Japanese arm of the Chinese mobile battery manufacturer, announced on Oct 21 a voluntary recall of four products due to the risk of them catching fire.
The recall will cover around 520,000 units, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). The targeted mobile batteries and speakers were sold between December 2022 and earlier in October 2025, and are no longer distributed or sold, Anker said.
Anker has previously conducted voluntary recalls in Japan, and the ministry has requested the company thoroughly inspect all its products powered by lithium-ion batteries.
Following an internal investigation into incidents where their products caught fire, the company said the problem was likely due to foreign substances entering batteries during the manufacturing process at a subcontracted company.
In addition to the inspections, METI requested reports on the company’s manufacturing and quality control systems, as well as on the progress of the voluntary recall. KYODO NEWS
