TAIPEI - A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck 17km northeast of Hualien, on Taiwan's east coast, Reuters reported.
The quake struck at a depth of 7.8km, according to the US Geological Survey.
No injuries or major damages were immediately reported.
But Taiwan's Liberty Times Net reported that tremors were felt almost throughout Taiwan. It added that one water tower in New Taipei City on the northern tip of Taiwan reportedly collapsed without injuring anyone.
