The record low turnout in Sunday's Legislative Council (LegCo) election signals underlying tensions in Hong Kong remain but the result could lead to the addressing of some of the socio-economic and other deep-seated issues that plague the city, observers say.
Only 30 per cent of the 4.5 million registered voters cast their ballots, leaving some observers to conclude that there was not much buy-in for a Hong Kong-style democracy.
