Harbin wows with spectacular ice and snow sculptures

Harbin, a city in China's north-east Heilongjiang province, opened its annual international ice and snow festival on Jan 5, wowing the crowds with its spectacular ice and snow sculptures. The giant models, illuminated in bright lights, replicate Chinese palaces, Russian churches and French cathedrals.

The festival regularly draws more than 800,000 people during its run. It ends on Feb 28.
