SHANGHAI - A woman in Shanghai had seven rings cut off after they got too tight and restricted blood flow to her fingers, reports said.

The 70-year-old woman was wearing nine rings, seven of which got stuck, People.cn reported on Wednesday (July 5).

The ring on her right ring finger cut into her flesh, causing her finger to swell. It took emergency responders two hours to remove all her rings.

The woman, surnamed He, called for help on June 30 evening and was taken to hospital.

She revealed that she had forced a ring meant for her little finger onto her ring finger.

It had been swollen for about two weeks and she sought help as the pain had become unbearable.

Three firefighters used electric tools to cut the rings from her fingers in a hospital operating room.

Her ring finger was necrotic and if it did not recover later, she may still have to amputate the digit, the report said quoting doctors.

A firefighter told the paper that this was not the first time this woman has asked for help to remove a ring from her finger, but this was the most serious episode thus far.
