TAIPEI - Taiwan's economic relations with the United States and its hopes for a trade pact received a boost after a key referendum over the weekend failed to pass, effectively allowing the import of US pork to continue.
More than 50 per cent of voters said "no" to reimposing a ban on imports of pork with trace amounts of ractopamine, a feed additive used by many US producers but which opponents claim may harm human health.
