death of American statesman Henry Kissinger,

who famously helped establish diplomatic relations between Beijing and Washington. 

While his legacy in the West is largely mixed – especially for his roles in conflicts in South-east Asia and the overthrowing of democratically elected governments – Dr Kissinger is much more fondly remembered by the Chinese, with top leaders and citizens paying tribute in various ways.
