Beautiful 3D designs created in China's paddy fields by farmers

SHENYANG (CHINA DAILY/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Rice field paintings covering hectares of land are attracting great attention in Shenyang, Liaoning province.

Many of the designs feature simple and abstract patterns in rough outlines.

This year's rice field paintings showcase images such as animals, people, places and boats.

Local farmers from the Xibo ethnic Chinese group made use of different colors and varieties of rice saplings in order to mimic the 3-D effect.

The height of the rice shoots is controlled by artificial technology, resulting in the unique images.

The tradition of creating patterns in their rice fields is a way of praying for blessings.

As many as 13 images featuring different themes can be seen in these rice paddy fields, which are each about 10ha in area.
