Ahead of local elections, Taiwan battles suspected disinformation from Beijing

TAIPEI – With its next municipal elections set to take place on Saturday, Taiwan is inundated with fake news once again – but the island appears to be better prepared to deal with it this time around.

“The Taiwanese are better informed about fake news now,” said Ms Summer Chen, chief editor of the Taiwan FactCheck Centre (TFC), a non-governmental group that offers fact-checking services.
