A tale of two islands - Hong Kong and Taiwan

Taiwan identity has gathered powerful steam, accelerated by what has been happening in HK

Four days before the Taiwanese went to the polls to elect their president for the seventh time, incumbent Ms Tsai Ing-wen unleashed a political advertisement on steroids. In a nearly three-minute campaign video, the two worlds of Hong Kong and Taiwan were displayed on split screens, to great effect.

A male narrator intones: "This is our daily life. Our son playing computer games. Our daughter waging virtual battles in an Internet cafe and taking the last train home.
