SYDNEY – For the past 38 years, Australia and its closest ally, the United States, have held regular high-level talks, even if the summits have at times resembled little more than occasions for the two sides to deliver lofty declarations about the depth of their alliance.
In recent years, however, these meetings have taken on new importance, with the two countries growing increasingly concerned about the impact of China’s rise on the region.
