Each New Year’s Eve, much of the population emerges to watch one or both of the city’s fireworks displays, held at 9pm and midnight.

Sydney is a vast, sprawling city made up of diverse communities spanning different cultures and degrees of wealth, yet there is one night of the year when almost everyone does the same thing.

Each New Year’s Eve, much of the population emerges to watch one or both of the city’s fireworks displays, held at 9pm and midnight. Some Sydney residents watch from community events held at local parks or beaches, and others gather at people’s houses.
