For decades, Australian policymakers have envisioned constructing a vast rail line across the country’s east to deliver freight to the three most populous cities – Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Five years ago, work finally began on a 1,700km “Inland Rail” project that will span three states, reduce delivery times and costs, and provide a major boost to the economy.
