Brazilian President facing impeachment

BRASILIA • Legislators from Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff's party appealed yesterday to the Supreme Court to halt impeachment proceedings against her after the speaker of the lower house of Congress triggered the process. She has been accused of illegally manipulating government accounts.

WHO: Dirty food kills 420,000 people a year

GENEVA • Contaminated food causes at least 600 million people to fall ill and 420,000 to die each year, many of them young children, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said yesterday. In a new report, the WHO called on governments and industry to improve inspections and control of the food chain.
