E-sports development gathers pace in Malaysia and Thailand

E-sports is making its inaugural appearance as a medal event at the biennial SEA Games. It had previously been a demonstration sport at last August's Asian Games in Indonesia.

E-sports' debut at the upcoming 2019 SEA Games has put the spotlight on the sports' budding national infrastructures in South-east Asia, with Malaysia and Thailand making key strides lately.

In November, the Malaysian federal government announced it would be allocating RM10 million (S$3.3 million) from its 2019 Budget to e-sports.
