Singaporeans switched to other sources of rice last year when Thai rice prices rose on the back of tighter supplies from the country.
The Thai government had been buying rice from farmers at above-market rates in a controversial subsidy plan.
With the subsidies scheduled to end this month, farmers will have to sell their harvest on the international market, which is already oversupplied by India and Vietnam.
About 30 per cent of Singapore's rice imports come from Thailand, and if prices drop, Singaporeans might just turn back to the premium grade of Thai Hom Mali rice.
In the meantime, check out Sunday LifeStyle's blind taste test of different rice brands, conducted last year.
