Civil servant Jasmine Law-Spain had thought she would not be able to travel at all this year as she had not budgeted for it.

But come November, she will wine and dine in the Swan Valley, Western Australia, after winning a trip for two in a series of giveaways to mark The Straits Times' 170th anniversary.

"This comes as a timely surprise. A good one, of course," said the 38-year-old, who plans to go with her husband.

The four-day-three-night tour worth $3,000, to the oldest wine region in Western Australia, includes two tickets to the Entwind Festival, a degustation dinner hosted by celebrity chef Matt Moran.

Mrs Law-Spain said she tries to holiday in Australia at least once a year with her husband, who is a stay-at-home father, and their two sons, aged 4- 1/2 and two years old.

"I love the relaxed atmosphere there and being closer to nature," she said.

Her prize was in the latest batch to be given out before the grand draw at The Straits Times Run on Sunday, when the winner of the top prize of a Land Rover Discovery Sport will be announced.

Four other winners took home the Casio Exilim EX-MR1 selfie cameras. One of them was Ms Elise Tan, 33, whose daily giveaway hunt paid off.

"I usually join one a day. This is one of the biggest prizes I've won, so I'm elated," she said.

The self-confessed contest aficionado regularly looks out for giveaways to join during her commute to work.

Ms Tan, who works in the insurance industry, said the $429 camera with a front-facing mirror will come in handy during outings with friends and colleagues.

"I like the fact that you can control how selfies come out. If someone else were to take photos for you, you don't know what's the outcome and they may not know the best angle (for a photo)," she said.

Since the launch of the year-long ST170 Treats competition in February, more than 142,000 entries have been submitted.

To enter, participants had to answer simple questions on the ST170 website about the prize they want. Prizes that have been given out include a cruise trip for two and a bathroom makeover.

The next round of giveaways will begin in November.
